Ingredients
Scale
- 1 block extra-firm tofu (14 oz), drained and pressed
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
Instructions
- Step 1: Press Tofu – Wrap the tofu block in a clean towel and press with a heavy weight for 20 minutes.
- Step 2: Cube Tofu – Slice the pressed tofu into uniform 1-inch cubes to ensure even cooking.
- Step 3: Season Tofu – Toss the cubes in a large bowl with soy sauce, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
- Step 4: Coat Cubes – Sprinkle cornstarch and nutritional yeast over the tofu, tossing until every side is coated.
- Step 5: Prepare Skillet – Heat the avocado oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Step 6: Fry Tofu – Arrange the cubes in a single layer in the pan, avoiding overcrowding.
- Step 7: Crisp Sides – Cook for 8-10 minutes, turning frequently until all sides are golden brown and crunchy.
- Step 8: Garnish and Serve – Remove from heat and serve immediately while the exterior is at its crispiest.
Notes
Ensure the tofu is as dry as possible before coating; moisture is the enemy of a crispy texture.
