Scale
Ingredients:
- 1 whole turkey (10 to 12 pounds)
- 2 cups turkey broth
- 3 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 onions, quartered
- 3 carrots, chopped
- 3 celery stalks, chopped
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat Oven & Prepare Pan – Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Line the bottom of a roasting pan with chopped onions, carrots, and celery.
- Step 2: Make Herb Butter – In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with rosemary, thyme, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until combined.
- Step 3: Season Turkey – Pat the turkey dry with paper towels, then rub the herb butter mixture all over the bird, including under the skin where possible.
- Step 4: Assemble for Roasting – Place the seasoned turkey on top of the vegetables in the roasting pan. Pour turkey broth into the bottom of the pan.
- Step 5: Roast the Turkey – Roast uncovered for about 2 hours or until the internal temperature of the thickest part reaches 165°F (74°C). Baste occasionally.
- Step 6: Rest & Serve – Remove from the oven and let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving. Serve warm with sides.
Notes
Ensure the turkey is fully thawed before roasting. You can add more broth during roasting if the pan gets dry. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
