Cinnamon Water Recipe

This easy cinnamon water recipe is a simple, naturally flavored drink made by steeping cinnamon sticks in water. Serve it warm like tea or chilled over ice for a refreshing, sugar-free beverage.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 cups 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • 1 teaspoon honey, optional
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, optional
  • 2 slices fresh ginger, optional

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the ingredients. Gather the cinnamon sticks and filtered water. Rinse the cinnamon sticks lightly if needed.
  2. Step 2: Boil the water. Add 4 cups of filtered water to a small pot and bring it to a gentle boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Step 3: Add the cinnamon. Place the cinnamon sticks into the boiling water, then reduce the heat to low.
  4. Step 4: Simmer gently. Let the cinnamon simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the water becomes fragrant and turns a warm reddish-brown color.
  5. Step 5: Strain the drink. Remove the cinnamon sticks and strain the cinnamon water through a fine mesh strainer if small pieces remain.
  6. Step 6: Serve warm or chilled. Pour into mugs and enjoy warm, or let it cool and refrigerate before serving over ice.
  7. Step 7: Add optional flavor. Stir in lemon juice, honey, or fresh ginger if desired before serving.

Notes

For cold brew cinnamon water, add 1 to 2 cinnamon sticks to 1 quart of cold filtered water and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight.

If using ground cinnamon, stir 1/2 teaspoon into warm water, let it sit for a few minutes, then drink carefully because the powder may settle at the bottom.

Store cinnamon water in a sealed glass jar or bottle in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days.

Ceylon cinnamon is preferred for frequent use because it has a milder flavor and lower coumarin content than Cassia cinnamon.
