Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh dark leafy greens (spinach, kale, or collard greens)
- 1/2 ripe banana, frozen for best results
- 1/2 ripe avocado
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or water, coconut water)
- 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries or pineapple (optional, for extra sweetness and chill)
- 1 scoop protein powder (optional)
- 1/2 inch fresh ginger, peeled (optional, for a flavor kick)
Instructions
- Step 1: Gather Ingredients – Lay out all your chosen greens, fruits, healthy fats, and liquid. Wash the greens thoroughly.
- Step 2: Load Blender – Add the liquid first to ensure a smooth blend. Then add your greens, followed by the softer fruits (like banana, berries), and finally the denser ingredients (avocado, ice, seeds, protein powder).
- Step 3: Blend Until Smooth – Start on a low setting and gradually increase to high. Blend until the smoothie is completely smooth and creamy, without any leafy chunks. This usually takes 1-2 minutes.
- Step 4: Adjust Consistency – If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more liquid. If you prefer it colder or thicker, add a few more ice cubes and re-blend.
- Step 5: Serve Immediately – Pour into a glass and enjoy! Green smoothies are best consumed fresh to maximize nutrient intake.
Notes
Experiment with different greens, starting with milder spinach before moving to kale. Freezing your fruit will significantly improve the smoothie’s texture and maintain its coldness. Avoid overdoing artificial sweeteners and adjust liquid content to your preferred consistency. For an extra boost, add a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice.
